Ever wondered what it takes to keep an Airbus A380 in the skies?
This incredible footage released by Emirates last week was filmed over 55 days and shows the entire 3C-Check process carried out by their maintenance teams on one of the airline’s A380-800s.
The time-lapse video shows engineering crews overhauling 1600 parts from inside the cabin including the seats in business and economy class, the wall panels lining the cabin as well as the on-board bar. Even the carpet gets replaced.
‘The aircraft has been fully overhauled during its 3C-Check. We return it in a pristine condition, just as it originally left the factory,’ says Colin Disspain, Vice President of Base Engineering at Emirates. ‘It’s like having a brand- new A380 again.’
Flight hours, landings and aircraft age all help determine the due date for a 3C-Check, with this particular A380 flying 20 million km, the equivalent of almost 27 return trips to the moon.
The overhaul was completed with a test flight before being put back into regular service, carrying passengers to Brisbane and Auckland.
