3 October

  • Aircraft: Aeroprakt A22LS Foxbat
  • Location: Hay Airport, NSW
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Loss of control followed hard landing and attempted go-around. Right and left wingtips hit ground consecutively, followed by nosewheel collapse and prop strike.

4 October

  • Aircraft: Airplane Factory Sling 2
  • Location: Caloundra, Qld
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Aircraft on training flight experienced partial power loss soon after take-off and made forced landing on beach. No damage.

12 October

  • Aircraft: Robinson R44
  • Location: 13 km north of Thredbo, NSW
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Pilot of private helicopter chose to make precautionary landing after phone fell from mount. High elevation of landing site required run-on landing as helicopter could not hover. Skid struck tussock grass and helicopter rolled. Tail boom detached. No injuries to 4 POB.

17 October

  • Aircraft: Cessna 182T Turbo Skylane
  • Location: Gold Coast Airport, Qld
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Aircraft on training flight made hard landing, resulting in damage, and minor injuries to crew member.

22 October

  • Aircraft: Cessna 150
  • Location: Near Bacchus Marsh Airport, Vic
  • Fatalities: 1
  • Description: Aircraft descended soon after take-off and crashed into paddock near airport.

26 October

  • Aircraft: de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver Mk I
  • Location: Near Whitsunday Island, Qld
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Floatplane inverted on landing. Pilot and 4 passengers escaped without injuries.

4 November

  • Aircraft: Ayres S2R-T Turbo Thrush
  • Location: Near Geraldton, WA
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: During take-off, the pilot lost directional control and the aircraft veered off the runway, resulting in a ground loop. Substantial damage to aircraft.

8 November

  • Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
  • Location: Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney, NSW
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Qantas flight had engine failure on take-off but returned safely. Fan blades from engine started a grass fire near the runway.

16 November

  • Aircraft: Morgan Aeroworks Cougar Mk1
  • Location: Near Tinamba West, Vic
  • Fatalities: 3
  • Description: VH-registered kit-built aircraft crashed into paddock under unknown circumstances. Three POB died.

19 November

  • Aircraft: Saab 340B
  • Location: Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne, Vic
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: During engine pre-start, flight crew received information that the propeller bridle strap was still attached. Engine was shut down and engineering inspection found no damage.

22 November

  • Aircraft: Aérospatiale AS332L1 Super Puma
  • Location: About 15 km west of One Tree, NSW
  • Fatalities: 1
  • Description: After ELT signal received, firefighting helicopter on ferry flight from Malaysia found to have crashed. Passenger died at scene. Pilot received minor injuries.

27 November

  • Aircraft: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
  • Location: Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney, NSW
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Jetstar flight to Phuket blew tyre on take-off and returned to airport.

2 December

  • Aircraft: Fly Synthesis Texan 600
  • Location: Ballarat Airport, Vic
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Engine failed on third take-off of circuits. Pilot landed on cross runway but aircraft flipped inverted on landing.

4 December

  • Aircraft: Robinson R44 Raven II
  • Location: About 50 km east of Young, NSW
  • Fatalities: 1
  • Description: Helicopter clipped a tree during aerial application and crashed.

26 December

  • Aircraft: Bombardier DHC-8-402Q
  • Location: Broken Hill Airport, NSW
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Description: Aircraft made hard landing and go-around, followed by uneventful landing after further 75 minutes.

29 December

  • Aircraft: Burrows Bearhawk Patrol
  • Location: Palmers Island Airport, NSW
  • Fatalities: 1
  • Description: Light sport aircraft similar to Piper Cub crashed on take-off, killing pilot and seriously injuring rear-seat passenger.
