TURBINE ENGINE

PRATT AND WHITNEY PW123 D–ATA 7321 FUEL CONTROL/TURBINE ENGINES–BEARING–EXCESS-PLAY. DR 611852058
Oil smell detected for about 5 min after engine start when engine bleeds selected ON. During troubleshooting, #2 engine mechanical fuel control spring strut was discovered with play in one of the attach bearings. Strut bearing was replaced, power and condition control re-rigged. Moreover, EEC reversion was found out of limits, EEC was centre trimmed (EEC RESET) and full EEC trim set up was carried out. Engine, ECS pack burn completed IAW Bombardier DH8-SL-21-027.

PRATT AND WHITNEY PW118–ATA 8097 STARTING WIRING–RELAY–OVERHEATED. DR 611852062
Electrical burning smell noted for a moment on two occasions while on ground after engine no.2 start/during engine no.1 start. Defect was traced to heat damaged APU feeder protection relay. Relay replaced. Attaching bus bars cleaned. All attaching nuts re-torqued/ torque sealed.

ALLISON 250 C30P–ATA 7230 TURBINE ENGINE COMPRESSOR SECTION–SEAL–Ejected. DR 611852145
Seal was installed and during run up, it pushed out. It was observed that outer diameter was smaller than the specifications. There was no damage on the part and it appears to be a manufacturing anomaly. All other seals in stock were inspected, both from the same and other batches, satisfactory.

PRATT AND WHITNEY PW150 A–ATA 7321 FUEL CONTROL/TURBINE ENGINES–TURBINE ENGINE–FLAMED OUT. DR 611852148
During descent, #2 FADEC caution light illuminated and then engine #2 flamed out. Aircraft landed safely. Maintenance action–fault codes–360 CH, A/CH, B 158B, 732 CHA/CHB, 907 CHA/CHB 938, CHA/CHB logged in CDS for #2 engine. No oil on dipstick and dolls eye was present. Oil found leaking from IB drain mast once towed to hangar. Engine change commenced. Investigation continuing, engine strip report requested.

IAE V2527 A5–ATA 7200 ENGINE (TURBINE/TURBOPROP)–TURBINE ENGINE–BIRD STRIKE. DR 611852152
During inspection, strong odour noted from core. Suspect bird strike during last sector. Relevant borescope inspection completed. All stages noted to be heavily contaminated with bird remains. Unscheduled inspections underway.

LYCOMING ALF502R 3–ATA 7230 TURBINE ENGINE COMPRESSOR SECTION–TURBINE ENGINE–STALLED. DR 611852153
Pilot reported ‘flashing’ from tail pipe + popping noises evident from #1 engine. During inspection, a large piece of bleed band plasma material found in the fan cowl. Missing HPC bleed band seating area will cause the bleed band to NOT close/seal properly thereby causing surge/popping. Engine will require MRO level repair.

PRATT AND WHITNEY PW123 D–ATA 7530 COMPRESSOR BLEED CONTROL–Air switching valve–STUCK. DR 611852155
During start, when bleed air was selected ON, faint smell was evident. Ground run confirmed the defect. Problem traced to P2.5 air switching valve. It was apparent that switching piston was stuck. Internal parts were cleaned, cylinder and piston polished to remove built up deposits. Valve installed, engine runs carried out, full ECS cleaning completed, satisfactory. OEM P&WC has been notified.

ROLLS ROYCE RB211 972 84–ATA 7261 TURBINE ENGINE OIL SYSTEM–PIPE–Oil leak. DR 611852184
Inflight, engine number 3 oil quantity observed to have dropped to 4.2 quarts and continued to decrease by 0.7 quarts per 45 minutes. Planned diversion executed. During maintenance, above idle run completed @ 63 psi oil pressure. Cowls opened, leak potentially evident from RH oil scavenge pipe P/N FW48291 deflector end. Pipe removed, noting pipe to be correctly torqued. Pipe replaced per SB RB211 79-J912. Idle and high power run up completed, cowls opened on completion and nil leaks evident.
