AIRCRAFT BELOW 5700kg
CESSNA 208 B – ATA 3246 WHEEL/SKI/FLOAT  – WHEEL – CORRODED. DR 611954110
Wheel assembly removed during scheduled maintenance for bearing replacement.

When disassembled, engineers noted heavy corrosion on bearing mount faces and around centre of each wheel halves.

Reason is unknown, wheel assy has only accumulated TSN of 645 HRS.  Corrosion is very heavy and may be result of poor part preparation or corrosion protection.

AERO COMMANDER 500 S – ATA 2497 ELECTRICAL POWER WIRING – WIRE – CORRODED. DR 611954117
Defect: Complete electrical failure.

Root cause: Corroded wire, there is a remote-controlled CB in the rear of the aircraft controlled by a single wire to a circuit breaker in the cockpit. If this wire fails, all power is lost to the aircraft.

Wire runs through three soldered pins connectors. Each pin/socket has a plastic tube over the pin. The corrosion is happening under the plastic tube. To fully inspect the pins, backshells, then  plastic tubing has to be pulled back. A visual inspection without removing the tubing will not reveal the corrosion.

THE AIRPLANE FACTORY SLING 2 – ATA 3220 NOSE/TAIL LANDING GEAR – LANDING GEAR – COLLAPSED. DR 611954180
Aircraft was coming in for landing, where it reported had an early flare. Aircraft bounced down the runway, nose gear collapsed resulting in propeller hitting the ground. Aircraft recovered to maintenance hangar for assessment and repairs.
DIAMOND DA42 – ATA 2820 AIRCRAFT FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM – HOSE – DETERIORATED. DR 611954097
Hoses shrinking in between L/H and R/H inboard and outboard fuel tanks, softening up and starting to weep. Once tanks drained, a visual check confirmed hoses falling apart.

Root cause: Manufacturing issue. These hoses are not affected by batch IAW Diamond MSB 42-138 but seem to suffer same issue.

Diamond notified; hoses replaced with updated P no. Hoses, fuel system inspected for contamination, tanks and wings refitted.

PIPER PA42 1000 – ATA 2720 RUDDER CONTROL SYSTEM  – CABLE – CORRODED. DR 611954150
Severe corrosion found during inspection against AD/GEN/87 A1.
Root cause: Environment in area of cables.
Cables replacement to go ahead.
