Changes to Sydney Basin airspace are now in effect.
Airspace changed across the Sydney basin on 9 July to support Western Sydney International Airport.
These changes safely integrate new flight paths. They also maintain capacity, efficiency and separation for aircraft.
The Sydney basin now has 4 neighbouring control zones:
- Western Sydney International Airport
- Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport
- Bankstown Airport
- Camden Airport.
Airservices Australia has introduced new controlled airspace and updated some procedures and visual flight rules (VFR) routes to support safe and efficient operations across the region.
Pilots need to follow new procedures. These include coded clearances at Bankstown Airport and carrying a transponder in the new Class D airspace.
It’s important that pilots plan their flight. Check your EFB is up to date and use the latest Aeronautical Information Package (AIP) information, including AIP SUPs and NOTAMs.
Flight plans must be submitted at least 30 minutes before the estimated departure time, and a squawk code received from air traffic control (ATC) before departure.
